"Even when there were no classes I preferred to stay at the Network…"

I came from Pakistan with my young son two years ago. When I first arrived in Australia, I rented a room from a very violent Pakistani woman who would throw us out of the flat early in the morning and not allow us in again until after dark. I was afraid to tell people the truth and I felt helpless because I couldn't communicate with anyone.

One day my son became ill and I had no where to go. I went to the Network and told them what my situation was and how frightened I was of her. They helped me to find emergency housing and gave me furniture and household goods so that I could start my life. Now the Network is helping me to find employment so that I can continue to help myself.

A friendship is formed Nazia has shown Fatima the ropes, where to buy things, all the best op shops, how to join the library and even how to use a computer. Their children have also become close; playing with each other and catching up at the Computer Clubhouse. Their friendship has given both women the comfort and security to overcome many hurdles.
