The most common volunteer position within the Fitzroy Computer Clubhouse is a mentor position where volunteers commit 2-3 hours a week on a designated day for 6 months.

Ways to Become Involved as a Clubhouse Mentor

As a Mentor, you can:
• Work with Members on a specific project or activity
• Help with technical systems
• Offer a workshop
• Point out websites that inspire creative ideas
• Contribute to the Clubhouse-to-College/Clubhouse-to-Career Program
• Develop themes for group projects
• Recruit other Mentors
• Work on your own projects, invite feedback or assistance from Members
• Participate in the Clubhouse Village
Purpose of the Position:

The Clubhouse is an after-school learning environment where young people explore their own interests and become confident learners thorough the use of technology. Mentors are a key part of the Clubhouse community, supporting the learning and exploration of clubhouse members.

Responsibilities:
Being available to Clubhouse Members and Staff to provide assistance, support,and encouragement to Clubhouse Members.
Specific Duties:
• Orient, welcome, and guide new Members
• Help to identify Members that might need extra support or encouragement
• Provide general help to Members
• Offer encouragement to Members
• Work one-on-one with Members
• Offer specific guidance or workshops in areas of expertise
• Organize special projects (based on interest)
• Support members in thinking about career/college opportunities
• Bring any serious concerns/issues to the attention of the Clubhouse Coordinator
• Engage in your own learning and exploration
Qualifications:
• Interest in the Clubhouse philosophy
• Experience and/or interest in working with young people
• Technical and/or art skills or commitment to developing skills
• Curiosity and interest in learning more about technology, working with young people, and being part of the Clubhouse Community
• Open to new people and ideas
