Fitzroy Computer Clubhouse is hosting an open house to celebrate the photographic work of Clubhouse members.
Where: Fitzroy Learning Network, 198 Napier Street, Fitzroy
When: Saturday the 21st February 2009, 11AM – 1PM

About the Exhibition: “Through Our Eyes” is the visual response of 12 Fitzroy Computer Clubhouse members to the challenge – “photograph Melbourne’s culture”. Participants are aged 8-15 and come from diverse cultural backgrounds including Pakistani, Eritrean, Somali and Afghani. The exhibition will be on display at the Fitzroy Computer Clubhouse on Saturday, 21st February 2009 from 11am. Select images will be displayed at the Fitzroy Learning Network and online at

Opening the Exhibition will be Gail Breslow, the Director of the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network located in Boston, USA.
Gail is visiting Australia for a couple of days and this is a great opportunity to meet her and learn more about the Clubhouse Learning Model, what other Clubhouses around the world are up to and future plans the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network have.

The Intel Computer Clubhouse Network support the Fitzroy Computer Clubhouse in a number of ways including-
Orientation training in Boston, USA for new Clubhouse Staff
Access to Learning Model
Support from Network Geographical Liaison staff
Scholarships for 3 members from each clubhouse to attend a bi-annual “Teen Summit”
Clubhouse to Career Scholarships
Software donations through partnerships with the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network

It is by being one of over 100 clubhouses around the world that the Fitzroy Computer Clubhouse has the resources and support to continue to be innovative and relevant in assisting young people gain the confidence through the use of technology to try out new ideas, take risks, become inspired and, ultimately, become active participants in making a positive change in their community.

Gail Breslow has overseen the dissemination of the Computer Clubhouses to community-based organizations both nationally and internationally since 1995. In addition, she has spearheaded the development of programs such as “hear Out Voices” (a Clubhouse program for girls and young women); “Clubhouse-to-College/ Clubhouse-to-Career”; and “Beyond  Four Walls: The Computer Clubhouse Invention Studio”. Gail served for many years on the Technology and Youth Advisory Committee of the Boys and Girls Clubhouse of America and has led workshops bout the Clubhouse’s unique learning approach at youth, community and technology conferences around the country.
